The Campus Minister/Residence Life Outreach is responsible for working with the Director of Campus Ministry in ministering to the spiritual needs and personal/social development of the Walsh University residential community. Serving as a catalyst in the formation of faith and spiritual development, primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, Peacemaker (peer minister) supervision, selection and training; enhancing and supporting programs based on spiritual development; establishing close relationships with residential students and staff; collaborating with and being a supportive member of the Campus Ministry and Student Affairs teams; and taking a leadership role in fostering participation and involvement in the services and activities of the campus faith community.

The Campus Minister/Residence Life Outreach professional will work closely with the Residence Life staff, and therefore support their efforts to create and maintain a positive, student-centered environment within the residence halls. This includes the establishment of programs and services which foster respect, dignity, and collegiality among residential students, in unison with the ethics and spirit of the University’s Mission Statement.

The Campus Minister/Residence Life Outreach reports directly to the Director of Campus Ministry.

Expectations and Responsibilities

• Overall responsibility to support and enhance the spiritual programming and services for the residential population housed in traditional residence hall and University Apartment environments.

• Directly supervise, train, and evaluate the Peacemakers – a team of Peer Ministers assigned primarily to the First Year residential environments.

• Develop and implement residence hall ministry programming, including the coordination of Bible studies, ecumenical outreach, and regular fellowship opportunities.

• Develop and integrate the Campus Ministry presence in the residence halls, including effective use of residence halls chapel and lounges, with outreach efforts to include individual floor/wing retreats, prayers, Masses and other gatherings.

• Assist the Director of Campus Ministry in the development and implementation of university Campus Ministry programming – providing opportunities for prayer, retreats, worship and spiritual growth. Specific responsibilities will include working with student leaders in the coordination of the annual AGAPE retreat/student fellowship formation groups (e.g.: Sisters in Christ or Brotherhood).

• Work with the Campus Ministry team in identifying, empowering, and coordinating the gifts of the Walsh University faith community and supervise a team of Campus Ministry Scholarship students.

• Participate in Student Outreach mission trip opportunities, including coordination of the Spring Break Service trips.

• Assist the Director of Campus Ministry with departmental fundraisers efforts, when applicable.

• Collaborate with Residence Life, university departments and educational divisions to identify, develop and present programs and services to address and celebrate the spiritual development of students, faculty and staff.

• Advise/support students in need/crisis, referring students when appropriate. This will include working with the Student Affairs Crisis Response Team when called upon.

• Support the Liturgical life of the campus by participating in prayer celebrations and formational opportunities.

• Assist the Campus Ministry team with administrative assignments, which may include project coordination, coordination/implementation of annual assessment of program services and student satisfaction, and communication with campus and external constituents.

• Represent Campus Ministry at meetings and gatherings as required/requested; Serve as University liaison to external constituencies and/or faith communities when assigned.

• Participate in the planning and presentation of major campus events/functions (e.g., orientation, matriculation, baccalaureate, graduation, the Honors Convocation, etc.) as requested.

• Promote availability and visibility to student body via effective utilization of office space, office hours and attendance/involvement in campus programs and events.

• Must have the availability and desire to work nights and weekends.

• Special projects and other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs and the Director of Campus Ministry


Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred, preferably in Theology, pastoral ministry or studies, or related field. Experience in Campus Ministry programming or other related, appropriate areas preferred. Previous experience with residence life, and/or familiarity with college residential environments is highly desirable. Well-developed relational/collaborative skills are also a priority. Excellent interpersonal communication, administrative/organizational skills and a desire to work in a university setting are necessary. Positive attitude and a sense of humor are a must.
